Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility.  It is the standard for most massage.

A Swedish massage can include hot stones with warm towels, ice, essential oils.  Some practices charge for these additions.  I do not.  Ask and ye shall receive!

CranioSacral

CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle yet powerful technique that is effective in releasing neck pain, back pain, and mental stress (among other things). It does this by optimizing the movement of cerebrospinal fluid through the spine and around the skull. Developed by physician William Sutherland, this therapy provides a very soothing and relaxing healing experience.

I work this into your regular massage as needed, or you can schedule a 30-minute or 60 minute CranioSacral session.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.

Deep tissue massage doesn't always have to hurt, though it sometimes does.  A slow and gentle approach usually allows the therapist to go deeper without other muscles tensing up to protect the area "under attack" (by its perception).  I usually use a slow and gentle approach, though there are times when I'll get my elbow in there when you need it.

Aromatherapy

After taking a complete medical history, I apply essential oils that may be of benefit for you as part of your massage.  I use independently certified 100% pure oils, meaning that the plants from which they come have no fertilizers or pesticides used on them, and their processing is chemical-free.

Hot Stone Therapy

Hot Stone Therapy is a style of massage where heated stones are placed at specific sites on your body to deepen relaxation and promote circulation in your muscles. Muscles that are heated with these stones release tension and stress much more deeply and quickly than with a traditional massage. The overall experience is very relaxing, nurturing, and rejuvenating.

I use these along with hot towels as needed during your regular massage, and there is no up charge for these.

Orthopedic Massage

Orthopedic massage is a style of massage therapy focused on treating painful conditions that affect the soft tissues of the body. Because orthopedic massage is designed to treat medical conditions, it requires extensive training. It involves releasing tense muscles, helping to stretch and lengthen tight muscles and tendons, and decompress rigid joints. My goal is to restore full health to the soft tissues of your body, both treating your specific conditions as well as improving your overall well-being.

Neuromuscular Therapy

Our muscles are wrapped with nervous system receptors that set muscle tone by sending constant monitoring reports back to our brains.  If our muscles are chronically tight, our nervous system may be the problem.  (This is how stress causes  tight muscles.)   By adding a little additional pressure for 30-90 seconds to make the nervous system register a problem, we can retrain it to set a more relaxing resting tone for our muscles.   Neuromuscular therapy is a system of massage techniques that use a holistic approach towards healing, emphasizing and stimulating the body's natural ability to heal itself. Neuromuscular therapy also enhances the function of joints and muscles, and accelerates the overall healing process by facilitating the release of endorphins.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger Point Therapy is a style of bodywork that focuses on stimulating and releasing "trigger points" in your body. Trigger points are tender areas of tension similar to acupressure points, except they occur in the belly of the muscle rather than along the energy pathways of the body. These "knots" are built up throughout a person's life due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stress. During a session, focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques order to release your trigger points. I use trigger point therapy where needed in nearly every massage I give.

Orthobionomy

Orthobionomy is a specialized massage that involves moving painful tissues into a position of ease and gently working with trigger points and the fascia until the muscle releases its chronic spasticity.  It is gentle deep tissue work that involves myofascial release and resetting the resting muscle tone and is highly effective for those in chronic pain.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release is a form of soft tissue therapy intended to eliminate pain, increase range of motion, and rebalance the entire body. It does this by using massage techniques to stretch the fascia and release the bonds that exist between the fascia, muscles and bones. Fascia is the connective tissue that connects and covers all muscles, organs, and skeletal structures of the body. Direct myofascial release is sometimes known as deep tissue work. Indirect release applies light pressure and gently stretches the fascia; this allows for increased blood circulation and relief from pain.  I have studied various myofascial massage techniques, including those of John Barnes.

Trager Approach

The Trager Approach is a type of bodywork developed by Dr. Milton Trager. It is designed to free up the body, release muscle tension, and improve your state of mind and physical well-being.  It involves gently jostling the muscle to free it from adhesions.  Because Trager is a very gentle and individualized type of bodywork, it is suitable for a wide range of clients including the disabled and the elderly. The tension and pain released by Trager sessions allows you to move more naturally and effortlessly, improving your overall quality of life.

Cancer/Oncology Massage

Massage can be very beneficial for those with cancer, but the unique needs of cancer patients require some modifications, which is not a problem since every massage I do is unique.  I focus my attention on creating a gentle, nurturing environment for you to relax into, working with only the best, most pure essential oils that are scientifically proven safe and effective for your type of cancer.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy massage is designed specifically for pregnant women. Pregnancy is a time when a woman's body endures tremendous stress due to dramatic physical and emotional changes. Using various techniques specially developed for the expecting mother, pregnancy massage helps release the pain and discomfort experienced throughout pregnancy. The benefits are profound, including emotional support, the relief of joint pain due to extra weight and postural imbalance, and improved breathing and relaxation.  Medical studies show that pregnancy massage is good for the baby, too, resulting in higher Apgar scores at birth.

Chair Massage

Chair massage is something offered at events or as part of an employee appreciation day.  It's a way of relieving stress and releasing tension anywhere.  You receive your massage in a specialized ergonomic chair designed to travel to various locations.  In addition to the usual health benefits of massage, another benefit of chair massage is that it is done over the clothing, so there's no wasted time in disrobing.  Also, chair massage sessions are usually shorter than traditional massage, making it convenient enough to relieve those aching shoulders in the middle of a busy day or at a special event.

If you'd like to schedule an employee health & wellness or employee appreciation day, give me a call!   We sometimes do free chair massages at events in order to give back to our community.
